Could Art Briles be Rhett Lashlee’s Replacement at Auburn?

Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has been hired at the University of Connecticut. It was announced tonight that the four year Tiger coach is leaving to take the same position at UConn.

Despite being a Broyles Award finalist as the nation’s best assistant coach after the Tigers’ SEC Championship year, some have questioned how much influence he actually had in Malzahn’s offense.

So this may be a chance to prove what he can do on his own, on the big stage, out from the shadow of his mentor.

Rhett has been a valuable asset to our program, said Gus. Helping Auburn to a national championship as a graduate assistant and another national championship appearance in 2013 … This is a great opportunity for Rhett to implement and run his own offense.

Question now is who will Auburn turn to replace Lashlee? Speculation has already begun that former Baylor head coach Art Briles could be the guy. It’s no secret that Briles is a good friend of Gus Malzahn.

However, the former Baylor coach would be a controversial hire considering his negative baggage.
Even if that were not an issue, it’s doubtful Briles would take a position without being given full control, something that seems unlikely for an offensive minded head coach like Gus Malzahn.

Stay tuned
.
Auburn has already proven they CAN do whatever the F they want, why would this be a problem for them???

Saban would "really" love dealing with Briles offense every season lol.

Somebody's going to hire Briles, and regardless of his baggage he is a he** of a coach. BUBear is right, Auburn will do what they want, all they care about down there is beating Bama. Briles can sure help getting that done, How long can they keep him as OC before someone offers him a HC job again?

It would be smart for him to take a back seat to Gus and let everything blow over.

One year. The A&M and Texas Tech jobs wili be open in 2017.

Aggy didn't spend 1/2 a billion dollars to rebuild Pyle Field to go 8-4 each season. They could have stayed in the BIG XII as that was their historical norm as members here, as it has become in the SEC. Empty seats speak volumes.

Briles is a West Texas boy (Rule, Tx). He played four seasons for Bill Yoeman at Houston before getting his degree at Tech. He was also the RB coach at Tech for Mike Leach and was the Pirates best recruiter. Art is good friends with former Texas Governor Rick Perry ( former A&M Yell Leader)they grew up together...Perry whilds a lot of power in College Station.

It only took Kiffin two seasons to rehab his rep at Bama and Briles is ten times the coach that Lame is so I'll go with one year.

I think the stain on Briles' reputation is a little bit different than the one on Kiffin's, wouldn't you say?

Kiffin was at Bama for 3 years.

If Briles' moral and ethical failings weren't enough, his subsequent litigiousness has made him unhireable, at least as a head coach. It's one thing for a school to be willing to risk their reputation by hiring a scumbag. It's a completely different thing for them to hire a scumbag who will sue them if they fire him for acting like a scumbag.
