When asked by Hannah Storm what his single golden rule of coaching was, Little Nicky replied with something along the lines of "We want to do everything in our power to foster an environment where our players become successful at life". Dabo Swinney followed with a similar sentiment. Where's the media and VN outrage? What kind of idiot coach would say something like that with the NC tomorrow night?

You are going to get some flack for this post, and you deserve every bit of it.

Because those coaches are playing for a championship. Ours lost to Vandy.

one can become a champion of life and lose every game they participate in during college. Life lasts a bit longer than four/five years....methinks there are very many Vol fans whose whole life revolves around 12 Saturdays per year....

You are seeing the difference between natural speaking and silly cornball rhetoric i.e. skilled vs unskilled

It's all in context.

Butch was asked in the Monday presser about not winning the SEC East when it was right in front of him and his response was:

..."When we talked about winning championships. They're a champion. They've won the biggest championship- and that's the championship of life."...

So, do you still not understand the difference in context?

This is all very true but it also has nothing to do with the SEC East.

Of course he didn't, just like the posters who defend the op's post. Anything to avoid the fact Butch had the East and then the Sugar Bowl handed to him, and he failed to get the job done.

Well let's see....one who said it fell short of winning the division in a year where he was picked to win it and it was pretty much given to him on a silver platter (and even beat who won it).

The other coaches are one that is playing for the NC for the second straight year and has won 3 ACC Championships in 5 years, and the other is on the verge of his 5th NC in 8 years and 6th overall.

So the lesson is, when you win, you get away with saying things like that.

Saban. The Indwelling. Bad juju. Unless he is (rightfully) crediting his career success or his team's success to Neyland's maxims, ignore him.

Because they used their big boy words to explain how they want their kids to be successful and productive members of society rather than trying to create another corny catch phrase. Had Butch those same words he would not have been roasted by the media, again.

Used their big boy words? No, they didn't at all. They all said the exact same thing.

No trust me I 100% understand what context means. Shouldn't matter in this case. Point is there are things bigger than football.

But Saban is Saban and Butch is Butch.

When Saban looks at the biggest victory in his career, he has an assortment of national title games to pick from.

When Butch looks at the biggest victory in his career, his mind probably goes to the Florida game this year, in which his team had to come from behind as a favorite to defeat a lower-ranked team at home.

That's the difference.

Ah see, you are looking through the lens of football being the most important. Completely contrary to quotes from Saban, Swinney, and the NCAA Core Values. Interesting..
