There are 40 bowl games now. That means there needs to be 80 teams with at least 6 wins. Currently there are only 75 and there could be at least 2-3 more teams become bowl eligible next weekend. There may be 3 teams with 5-7 records in bowl games.
I've always thought that teans should win 7 games to be bowl eligible. I can remember back in the 60's-70's when there were only 10 bowl games. The top games were: Sugar, Cotton, Orange and Rose Bowl. The Gator Bowl was probably the 5th or 6th highest ranked Bowl. There was the Liberty Bowl.
I'd prefer if there were no more than 20-25 bowls and the top 40 teams played in these bowls.
No conference should have more than 4-5 teams in bowl games. This was what it was 30 years ago.
Saying that, would the Vols get a bowl game if there were only 25 bowls available? I'd say yes.
