The Civil War

I'm a Vols fan through and through. I watch every game that makes its way to the west coast, I'm on my feet with the rest of you after the good plays, and on my knees with my head in my hands after the bad ones.

But I have been going to Civil War games long before I found Tennessee football. This game is still it for me, my absolute favorite night of college football ever year.

I was in Eugene in 1996 to see the Ducks crush the Beavers 49-13. Crushing defeat to my friends family who was kind enough to take me to my first college football game. They were Beaver fans, and every member of their family, maternal and paternal, had gone to OSU for three generations.

My next time was in 1998 for a 44-41 classic with a Beavers victory in Corvallis.

Since then I went to the game in Corvallis in 2006 for an Oregon State comeback, 30-28 Beavers. That one was an absolute classic, fans of both sides still talk about it.

The passion and tradition are there. This is the 7th oldest rivalry in the college game, going back 115 years. It's not unlike The Big Game, The Iron Bowl or the Tobacco Road Rivalry. If you're from the state, you're either a Duck or a Beaver and that's just the way it is. This is the type of rivalry that will cause married couples from each school to not speak to eachother for a week (I've seen it happen).

Tonight, the state is divided over a stretch of Highway 99 not even 50 miles long. It's going to be for a berth in the Rose Bowl, and the rights to kick the ever-loving crap out of Ohio State.

This is it, what college football is all about. Hopefully both teams come out as good as they've been playing lately, I hope all of you tune into ESPN tonight at 9ET to watch what should be among the most electrifying games in college ball this season.

Enjoy.

Since I'm at OSU now, I guess I should see my school's next opponent in action today. After the office I guess.

Hyams is reporting that the Confederates are holding a slight lead over the Union Forces in the Civil War.

Hyams also stating that Robert E Lee will in fact be a Union General and will sign his letter of intent next wednesday.

This one is always fun. But, with a conference championship and trip to the Rose Bowl on the line...well, it just doesn't get much better than this.

The Fat Tire will be flowing like wine tonight at casa de jt5.

This reminds me a little of OSU-Michigan 2006... Less on the line obviously, but still has to be very interesting to those on the West coast.

Lots of good stuff on tv tonight but I'm definitely looking forward to this. Big rivalry and basically a conference championship game.

I don't think I've been looking forward to a non-UT/SEC game all season as much I have been this one. Can't wait.
