| | VN Night Watch | Coming back from Eugene... I was in town anyways for a friend's halloween party (I made a pretty mean lumberjack), when one of them was kind enough to give up his seat for the USC-Oregon game. He wasn't much a fan of football and knew that I was. I bought him a case of beer for his kindness. Got down front row near the endzone for some great seats.
1. Much like Mark Sanchez is doing in the NFL, Matt Barkley is coming down to Earth in the college game. Only just a little, though. His interception was a meaningless heave in the closing seconds of the game. Still, he did look like more of a bright spot, overall, for the Trojans. He will still be a special quarterback in the coming years.
2. My ears have been ringing since yesterday. I was at the Cal game earlier this year, and I've been to a number of Civil War games in years past. If I have the money, I will finally attempt to make it to some SEC games next season. But Autzen was absolutely electric. Carroll's squad got called for false starts six times, and twice had to call timeout because of inability to call audibles. Tremendous crowd presence there.
3. Is Pete Carroll's dynasty over? No, he needs to get some new assistants around him though. I don't think this game changed anything, more of an exclamation point on USC's slide out of invulnerability in the Pac-10. It was inevitable, but they're still a recruiting juggernaut. Which leads me to my next point:
4. The Ducks still beat USC. And beat the tar out of them. By far Pete Carroll's worst loss during his time in LA, and one of the worst losses USC football has ever had. Still, it's the same team that gets the best classes every year. You can't beat somebody up like that without having a lot of talent yourself, which the Ducks absolutely have, surprisingly enough. Should Texas, Florida and Alabama go undefeated the rest of the way, some combination of those teams will be playing for the national title. Should one of them lose, though, and should Oregon win the rest of the way including a convincing win at Arizona, then I would put them in the lead spot for consideration. Anybody else?
Had a lot of fun. I hope everybody else had a good Halloween.

| I'd still give Boise the nod over Oregon if they win out. Better record and beat them head to head. You really can't ask for more. But I agree, Oregon does look good.

| | VN Night Watch | Little technicality on the point of Boise; yeah, but I kind of disregarded them for it, there's no way the computers will rank them highly enough for them to make the title game. SOS.

Had a lot of fun. I hope everybody else had a good Halloween. | I would, they have made a vast improvement since the beginning of the season and are moving on all cylinders right now. I get that boise state beat them, but I think Oregon would bring a better game against Florida. Going to be an interesting couple of weeks with Florida, Bama, Texas, Cincy, Boise, and Iowa. But there is no doubt that Oregon is the best 1 loss team right now and better than many of those teams I just listed. |

| And my sister said the Duck Alumni group in DC was making a riot, so I can only imagine their fans at the game going crazy. |

| Thanks for sharing that, would you say Autzen is one of the funnest places to be for a big game like last night? Also have you ever been to the Coliseum? Always wondered what USC home games were like. |

Always wondered what USC home games were like. | Autzen was a blast. Tailgating is kind of rough, because all the main lots are basically mudpits a few weeks into the season. But it works out well enough. The way the stadium is laid out is very different. Like I said in the stadiums thread, the fans are *extremely* close to the players.
Duck fans do get pretty uppity when their team is doing well, though. If things are on the up and up going into the 2013 game and any of you guys are planning on making the trek to Eugene, you may have to put up with some drunk idiots. Couldn't be any worse than LSU or Florida, I'd imagine, though. I didn't see anything thrown at USC fans. Just a lot of heckling and obscene things being yelled by people with a large amount of alcohol in them.
