Due to mounting criticism, a mutual decision for Brandon Spikes to sit out the entire Vanderbilt game was made by the senior linebacker and Florida's coaching staff and players.
Coach Urban Meyer had received negative attention for being too lenient after an incident involving Spikes during Saturday's game against Georgia.
Spikes said he doesn't want to be a distraction to his teammates. Meyer said he supports Spikes' decision.
Meyer suspended Spikes on Monday for the first half of Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt for sticking his hand inside the helmet of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey after a tackle.
