Week 2 CFB Line discussion...

I'm not trying to make an official post or anything. I didn't see one just for line discussions. A few years ago I got heavy into betting NCAA on a couple of the websites and went from $100 to well over $2,000 in a single season. Most of it was done by hitting a few killer parlays but I also tried to play smart with my $$ and I felt I done a decent job.

Now with all the new regulations about online sports betting it makes it much more difficult to do this anymore. So, I don't have any $$ tied up into any of these sites anymore. I would think about getting back into it if I knew where to place my $$ where I could safely get it back out when I wanted to without much hassle.

But that's not the discussion here. I just thought some here may want to discuss the lines intelligently. I play a weekly board at work that has about 30 people playing weekly. Its a 10 game pick'em contest against the spreads. Winner take all - tiebreaker is total score in a particular game. I kid you not out of the entire season last year I finished 2nd 9 times, tied for first 3 times, and SPLIT a tiebreaker the time I won it. The total was like a 44 and one guy had a 42 and I had a 46 so we split the $$. They done two boards this week since there were so many games spread out over the weekend. Again, I finished 2nd both times - with 7 out of 10 games won on each card.

I thought maybe some discussion could help me get over the hump. Every week I curse myself for one pick so this week my two cursing picks were playing Colorado -10.5 at home against CSU on one card and playing Nevada +14.5 against Notre Dame on the other card.

Here are the games I am having to play this week:

Syracuse +28.5 @ Penn State
Troy +36 @ Florida
Marshall +19 @ Virginia Tech
East Carolina +6.5 @ West VA
TCU -10.5 @ Virginia
Notre Dame -3 @ Michigan
UCLA +7.5 @ Tennessee
Mississippi State +14 @ Auburn
South Carolina +7 @ Georgia
Southern Cal -7 @ Ohio State

Quick glances tell me there's a couple I really like from the early looks and they are playing Cuse +28.5 against PSU, TCU -10.5, and Southern Cal -7.

I'm leaning Notre Dame -3, East Carolina +6.5, and Mississippi State +14

The rest of the games are head scratchers on the surface to me. Having to play Tennessee every week worries me because I try not to let team loyalty get in the way of good picks. That's why when I would bet whatever I wanted I'd never bet on UT. I am leaning towards UT at home against UCLA but not sure about that one. Also, I'm thinking South Carolina could come down to Georgia and get a win. Of course they also could come down there and get pounded 28-7 or something like that too.

Right now also no idea about Marshall/Virginia Tech or Troy/Florida. That Florida game is alot of wood to be laying but Troy looked God awful this past week against Bowling Greene so I will probably go Florida there.

Feel free to add any game discussions. I will try to look over these picks a bit more over the next day or two and decide how I'm going to play the sheet this week.

The ones I'd feel most comfortable about would be ND, UF, UT, and maybe Miss State. The rest of those are pretty tough though. Last weekend I hit on 4 of my 5 games. I didn't expect Maryland to get destroyed.

oregon is a 12 point favorite against purdue which seems like way too many points considering all that is going on.

hawaii is a 2 point favorite over WSU. I can't believe hawaii wont beat them easily.

South Carolina vs Georgia is going to be a terrible game.

I would be careful with that Purdue +12 pick. Oregon should play much better at home after such an embarrassing game vs Boise last week. I'm not sold on Purdue yet. I'm not sold on Oregon either but think this could be a game that could go any number of ways. I wouldn't touch it with some other good games on the board this week. If I HAD to choose one I'd play Purdue but not have the warm and fuzzies about picking them.

My take. I won my picks league last week thanks to La Monroe.
Syracuse +28.5 @ Penn State Syracuse
Troy +36 @ Florida Florida
Marshall +19 @ Virginia Tech Virginia Tech. That defense is for real. Can Marshall keep Va Tech from trying to rehab the reputation of T mobile? No.
East Carolina +6.5 @ West VA ECU. West Virginia looked SOOOO bad against Liberty. I think you could lose this, but you know everyone else is picking WVU and this is the one pick that gets you first place this week. If it is wrong you were not going to win anyway.
TCU -10.5 @ Virginia TCU. I would pick TCU and then pick them again. These types of guesses are where you always get in trouble but I think the wheels are off in C'Ville and Groh gets fired this year. They will have the sweaters retied around the necks and be headed to throw the frisbee on the green by halftime.
Notre Dame -3 @ Michigan I like Michigan.
UCLA +7.5 @ Tennessee Tennessee. This is the easiest pick to me. I would not take UCLA plus 14.
Mississippi State +14 @ Auburn Hard pick. New coaches, neither played a real team. I think Ms State. They lose but by 10 or so.
South Carolina +7 @ Georgia Georgia. NC State defense was not that good, SC offense is that bad.
Southern Cal -7 @ Ohio State Southern Cal. You were not wrong when you watched the Navy game and thought OSU would not be able to stop USC offensively.

I will take USC (even though I hate them) and give 7 points ALL DAY LONG against Ohio State. Freshman QB or not.

I could eat that bet, but I doubt it.
