Not even a good joke:

"The 2012-13 athletic budget approved in the summer by the UK Board of Trustees shows that football is slated to produce $27.6 million in revenue while spending $9.5 million — for a profit of $18.1 million. By comparison, men’s basketball, even coming off a national championship, is projected to produce $20.8 million in revenue, while spending $12.6 million — for an $8.2 million profit."

Some might concur that it's been shut down since Curci left.

I'd say since early 80's. Not sure if that is around your guy, but since Jerry Claiborne its been downhill.

Trends up and down. Curci left around 1980. Claiborne led to two bowls. Mumme had a couple of bowl seasons but had scandal at the end. Brooks had a solid couple of years.

My dad was a big Claiborne fan.

And that's why no school in a power conference will ever drop football. Even if they spend the next 20 years at UK/Vanderbilt/Kansas/Kentucky/Wake Forest/Colorado/Purdue/Iowa State/Indiana levels of awful.

"We just can't seem to beat any of our rivals," athletic director Mitch Barnhardt said. "We're already three years removed from beating Tennessee for the first in a good while, and we're even further removed from beating Louisville or Mississippi State. Hell, we've barely managed to play .500 ball against [Vanderbilt] lately."

This should tell you everything you need to know about the validity of this article.
