Today 25 years ago, Hank Gathers died.

I was only about 7 years old, but I vividly remember seeing that story on the news. Just awful.

I was a senior at UF 25 years ago.

I remember hearing about Gathers' on SportsCenter the morning after he passed.

So sad.

That LMU team was fun to watch. They beat Michigan 149-115 in the tournament later that month.

I vividly remember sitting there watching the late SportsCenter when it happened. The raw footage of him being down on the court, the gym going silent and his Mother on the court sobbing is just awful.

That was the first NCAA tournament I followed as a kid, and I remember pulling for Loyola. I was in awe of how serious and determined their players seemed.
