"The Wreck of The Will Mus-Chomp-Gerald"
by The Hacker
The legend lives on from the Seminoles on down
Of the swamp called Ben Hill Gitchee Gumee
The swamp, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the games of November turn gloomy
With a record of 5-4, and only 2 more
Til the Mus-Chomp office is empty
That bad coach and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the November losses came early
The Gators were the pride of the whole Gainesville side
Coming back from the rainout with Idaho
As Eastern Michigan goes, the win was bigger than most
With a crew and good Mus-Chomp well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a directional team
Then they came home loaded for Kentucky
But later that night when the final horn rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind on the field made a tattle-tale sound
When the Tigers broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Mus-Chomp did, too
'Twas the witch of Missouri come stealin'
Homecoming came late and the firing had to wait
Til the games of November came slashin'
When 4th quarter came it was freezing rain
In the face of a Missou Tiger west wind
When the bye week came, the AD came on deck
Sayin' "Will, it's getting rough to keep ya"
One more loss and youll surely cave in
Then its, "Will, it's been good to know ya"
Then Mus-Chomp figured he had more losses comin' in
And the bad team and crew was in peril
And then the next week when his playbook ran out
Came the wreck of the Will Mus-Chomp-Gerald
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the losses turn minutes to hours?
The announcers all say they'd have made a much better team
If they'd scheduled more small schools behind her
They might have held up or they might have capsized
They could have won more and broke water
Now all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the linemen, the ends, and the kickers
LSU rolls, Alabama sings
In the home of Wills poor Gator nation
Old Spurriers team was for Will a bad dream
The fumbles and blocks not forgotten
And farther up north, Tallahassee-o
Will take in what Will Mus-Chomp can send her
And the Seminoles will score as the Gators all know
And add to the losses remembered
In a musty old office in Gainesville they prayed
In Foleys own AD Cathedral
The college bell chimed 'til it rang eighty-nine times
For each man on the Will Mus-Chomp-Gerald
Now the legend lives on from the Seminoles on down
Of the swamp called Ben Hill Gitchee Gumee
The big swamp, they said, never gives up her dead
But Mus-Chomps demise has come early
