I meant to post and ask about this when it happened.
Apparently, right before the season started (Aug. 27), Virginia Tech's A.D. decided to give the football coach Frank Beamer a 2 year extension on his contract. (So through 2019.)
I get extended a good coach, extending a program building coach, etc, when those things happen. I get that.
What I don't understand was the timing here. Virginia Tech had gone 7-6 and 8-5 the last two years, and the coach was already under contract until 2017.
Why suddenly extend his contract right before the season starts?
(And it kind of looks even more odd now after how their season's started so far...though there seem to be some possible merit to argue both sides so far.)
