In his opening remarks to the media horde at SEC Media Days, Mike Slive addressed the much discussed “Project X,” which you should all know by now means a potential/probable SEC-only channel created in partnership with ESPN:

“There has been a whole lot of speculation about “Project X.”* Is it still a secret?* I don’t think so.* But we now call it “Project SEC.”* Our objective long-term to work with our television partner to provide fans with greater access to favored teams, more opportunities to watch rivals, and more inside into who we are — a conference of 14 great universities.*

I’d love to say more.* I know you want me to say more.* I won’t say more.* I will, though, before I get too much older and before you get too much older.”

And of course spurrier was going to make some fuss about scheduling and being unfair today:

* In response to a question about how Arkansas has been tough for Carolina, Spurrier said: “You think I make the schedule?* If I made the schedule Georgia’d be playing LSU and we’d be playing Ole Miss.* We don’t make the schedule.* Naw, we’re not complaining about that other part I mentioned there.”* Uh, actually, he just did.

* Spurrier points out that Arkansas and Auburn have had the Cocks’ number.

At least he didnt trot out that "only same division games should count" he's been telling the press all summer.



I'm not sure what to make from what he said in this part really:

* Wow. “We will not recruit Texas… we’re not going into Texas to try and compete with Oklahoma and Texas and all those guys.”* There are a bunch of East Division coaches who’d love to be able to trade cross-divisional rivals with Spurrier if he’s not interested in recruiting Texas.* It’ll be interesting to see if he sticks to that philosophy in the future.

How did he fuss? The dude seemed to think that the coaches got to make the schedules. Spurrier's response was hardly fussing.

Just watched Franklin. What a jerk. And all of the ESPN guys are gushing over him. "I am motivated," sez Kevin Carter. "He speaks the truth....James Franklin is very impressive." Other guy sez Vandy got Kimbrow because he's from Memphis and Vandy played in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, while Tennessee did not. Good Lord.
