Many do, but that's some gorgeous country from Coeur d'Alene to Glacier.

Not a chance. Has nothing to do with quality of football; Boise is a no-name school in a media blackhole with relatively little viewership when they're not playing a big OOC or bowl game.

Larry Scott has been looking for teams with significant media markets, strong academics (some university presidents still care about that sort of thing), cultural fit and all-around quality athletics. Every university west of the plains that meets that criteria is already in the Pac-12. Unless Texas and Oklahoma can be had, don't expect the conference to expand any time soon.

Too bad the skilled schools weren't located in more viable media markets.
At the time, AQ status was the driving force. Hell, four years ago I already had the MWC pegged above the Big East and damn near on par with the ACC. If it had been the programs you mentioned, I think it would have been a power conference purely in terms of quality football.

But AQ status comes from politics, not football, hence the Big East having it and the MWC not having it. If this playoff scenario had happened sooner, that may have come together but it is what it is.

I'm not so sure the pac12 would even want to expand to 16, much less ever invite Boise St unless they had to (like NCAA for some reason forcing them to, which would be a huge overstep of their powers)

I get a lot of people want a big, all-encompassing, equally proportioned, NFL-like regionally division set up to all the college football's teams, but the PAC 12 really doesn't want the school itself as a member for a list of reasons/some serious negatives it carries with it (not so much a "oh woes, they're in a small TV market)

And I'm not fully sure OU can without Texas (get accepted that is, not so much "be had"...although OU's pretty much made it clear they'd want to be members/hit the west coast)

I didn't think he would catch it since he couldn't make it coherent the first time around.

How do you imagine that the PAC will have a choice? Their $20 mil/yr deal looks pretty good right now... but how is it going to look when the SEC renegotiates to $30+ mil BEFORE the SEC network comes into play?

Fact is, it's an arms race. It's a race that right now, they are losing, and they're getting further behind. They'll have no choice but to expand to keep up. When they do, who is their logical choices?

Boise MAY be worthwhile in tier 1 money, meaning they bring primetime games to the PAC that will be picked up by networks(depending on how well they continue to expand their national brand). They wouldn't be worth much in tier 2 or tier 3 because of their small local tv market, but in the form of national viewership, they MAY bring quite a bit to the table.

This is why CBS is slow-playing the SEC in the renegotiation of our tier 1 rights... because A&M and Mizzou bring little in the way of prime national brand viewership... their MAJOR value is in tier 2 and tier 3 AKA the number of people inside the markets.

The Big12 has chosen to expand based on Tier1, while the SEC and PAC method was on Tier2 or 3... thusfar
