| The Beginning of the End Well, here we are. A four-team "playoff" is approved. I liken this to ObamaCare. It's really going to suck the life out of college football. Honestly, I couldn't give a F*&^ about who the national champion is. Whether it's a playoff or shoot'n dice or whatever it is. College football to me is about rivalries, bragging rights, going to see your team win so it can make it to a respectable bowl game and feel like you had something to do with it. Then, the final rankings, it means something to be in the top ten. It doesn't mean much if you have had a 11-win season and don't make the playoffs.
So, here's what's going to happen. Now that we have the "Playoff" it's only four teams. The first or second year, there will be one or maybe two at the most shoe-ins, then about 12 teams that have a legit argument that they should be in. So, what formula is going to make them all feel comfortable with the final decision? Answer: None.
So, we'll make it an 8-team, then a 16 team. Then, guess what? There will be 160 some odd teams who have no shot at making the playoff, but could have been, say, ranked 23rd or something like that that are no longer playing for anything. So, why go to the games if you're not playing for anything?
You heard it here first. College football just took a huge step backward. Should be able to get good seats from here on out w/o having to make a donation, however. |

| I think that's a bit dramatic. You'll still have bowl games and fans still pack the stands when their teams start out 2-3. You pretty much know in the first few games if your team has a shot to play in the championship game and that hasn't stopped fans from coming? Usually every year there are 4 or 5 teams that seperate themselves from the rest so thats why I like this playoff system.

| The regular season still matters and double digit win teams are going to get screwed like they have been for decades. College football will be just fine. |

| | Wave yo hands in the aiya | Ticket prices will fall through the floor. Such a huge and inclusive playoff will surely undermine the whole thing. Just look what the BCS title game, that limited it to two teams did to the regular season.
Doomed. |

| Then stop watching.
And I hate to break it to you but outside of the 2 top BCS teams, nobody cares about the rest of the Top 10 now. Acting like this changes that at all is stupid.

| | VN's One and Only | How is changing to a type of playoff system (which every other major sport uses to decide a champion btw) a step backward? As much as I love college football, it was a sport that was (and in many ways still is) stuck in its ways and reluctant to change.
The bowl format to determine a national champion is something that has been ridiculed forever because of how restrictive and unorthodox it is. It's never been a good way to select a national champion, and never will be. A 4 team playoff isn't a perfect solution, but it sure as hell is a step in the right direction.

| Playoff system will not hurt things one bit. There will still be bowls, and most likely they will incorparate the playoffs into a bowl somehow. People get mad now if there team is not voted #1 or #2 to get in the game. Now they will expand that to at least #1-#4 so you get a better shot at your team making it. Lets face it, if you are not ranked #1-#4 at the end you probably won't win the playoff anyway. |

The #23 ranked team will be playing for the exact same thing in the "new" system that they are playing for in the current BCS system. In both they are playing for a mid-tier bowl spot.
