Texas Tech forced to play on LHN

RedRaiderSports.com - Tech may play on LHN

They're threatening to buy out the game, due to the fact that they don't want to play a home game against Texas State on the Longhorn Network. The officials at the Longhorn Network must be really getting desperate. They're already losing money. Its pretty comical to say the least.

is it really all that comical? I was under the impression that sooner or later Texas was going to start trying to force more of its conference games onto the LHN (& it was one of the things that A&M, among others, were upset by)

You're right. But Tech wouldn't be playing Texas in this game. They would be hosting Texas State on the Longhorn Network, and that's a nonconference game.

Cause they need new blood at the HC position. The high point was VY. Its really been going steadily down hill since.

well ya, u give the other ut a good coach they'll be at that level

mack brown has consistently let talent go to waste, only reason they won a nc was bc their team was so stacked with elite talent and a playmaking QB...can't really go wrong with that formula, no matter what team u coach for

Texas' last good team was 09. They'll never reach elite status again as long as Mack Brown is coaching, regardless of the elite talent that they continue to bring in.

No really a steady downhill/ I wouldn't really say that. They won a BCS bowl in 2008 (and ended ranked 3rd or 4th) and made the national championship in 2009 (won their conference).

Quote:
2005 Texas 13-0 8-0 1st Rose Bowl W USC 41-38 1 1 Division, Conference, National
2006 Texas 10-3 6-2 2nd Alamo Bowl W Iowa 26-24 13 13
2007 Texas 10-3 5-3 2nd Holiday Bowl W Arizona State 52-34 10 10
2008 Texas 12-1 7-1 T 1st Fiesta Bowl W Ohio State 24-21 3 4 Division
2009 Texas 13-1 8-0 1st BCS National Championship Game L Alabama 21-37 2 2 Division, Conference

Now the last 2 years after that have pretty much been downhill.

Issues seemingly switched somewhere between they really need a better OC / they really need a better QB

ESPN apparently has backed down on this. Tech had threatened to just flat out cancel said game and only play an 11 game schedule.

If that's true I am glad they showed some testicular fortitude.

It appears that way. Much respect to Tech.

Best link I had on me:

Updated: Texas Tech could cancel game on Longhorn Network | CollegeFootballTalk

Quote:
“Give me liberty (from the Longhorn Network), or give me 11 regular season games.” — Texas Tech, June 21, 2012.

Reportedly.

Yeah, the Big 12 looks all rosy on the surface, being*on the verge of inking a huge payday and wisely*aligned*itself with the SEC for a new bowl game and all, but inner grumblings over Texas’ Longhorn Network apparently haven’t subsided.

RedRaiderSports reports an interesting story that Texas Tech is willing to cancel its Sept. 8 game against Division 1-A newcomer Texas State because it*could be aired on the Longhorn Network.

Yes, the Red Raiders are apparently okay with playing 11 regular season games and absorbing any potential buyout for cancelling just as long as they don’t have to have a burnt orange logo next to their name.

“We are extremely disappointed,” a source told RRS. “Our hope is that the Texas State game will be played on a primary ESPN platform.”

Last year, the LHN approached Tech about airing its game against Texas, but the Red Raiders refused.

ESPN announced the game would be broadcast on one of its platforms earlier this month, but did not specify which. The WAC, of which Texas State will be a member this year, has the right to determine the broadcast partner for the game and has recognized the LHN*as an official ESPN platform after the channel agreed to air all six UTSA home games this season.

So while Texas State would have no real issue with the broadcast, Texas Tech could have its hand forced. Understandably, they would have a problem with that.

Updated 6/22 @ 9:45 a.m.: Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com tweets that the LHN/ESPN will not pursue the Texas State-Texas Tech game. Whether the game will be broadcast through another channel remains to be seen, but the “development” isn’t much of a surprise given the instant brouhaha.
