| Potential 14 team conference schedule? Greetings from Missouri. It's looking more and more like we will be joining you all in the SEC and I like most Mizzou fans am thrilled about it.
This was posted on a Mizzou forum as a possible 14 team schedule and I was curious what you all think about it.
Do away with divisions and give each team three permanent rivals.
Football - Play each rival every year plus 5 of the remaining 10 (rotating every 2 years) for an 8 game conference schedule.
*Championship game would be between the two teams with the best conference record and if there is a tie they take the two with the best BCS rankings.
Basketball - Play each rival home and away plus everyone else once for a 16 game conference schedule
Rivals could look something like this (teams might have to be adjusted a bit but you get the idea)
Alabama - Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee
Arkansas - LSU, Missouri, and Texas A&M
Auburn - Alabama, Florida, and Georgia
Florida - Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee
Georgia - Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina
Kentucky - Missouri, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt
LSU - Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas A&M
Mississippi - Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt
Mississippi State - Mississippi, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt
Missouri - Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas A&M
South Carolina - Georgia, Mississippi, and Mississippi State
Tennessee - Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky
Texas A&M - Arkansas, LSU, and Missouri
Vanderbilt - Kentucky, Mississippi, and Mississippi State
Using the above your conference schedule would look something like this. Year 1
Alabama
@Florida
Kentucky
@Arkansas
Auburn
@Georgia
LSU
@Mississippi Year 2
@Alabama
Florida
@Kentucky
Arkansas
@Auburn
Georgia
@LSU
Mississippi Year 3
Alabama
@Florida
Kentucky
@Mississippi State
Missouri
@South Carolina
Texas A&M
@Vanderbilt Year 4
@Alabama
Florida
@Kentucky
Mississippi State
@Missouri
South Carolina
@Texas A&M
Vanderbilt
Nice thing about this set up is the conference can protect important rivalries and in a four year period every team plays every other team both home and away.
Thoughts? |

| Not bad really. Have to change the Conf Championship Rule the NCAA has that requires divisions. |

| First off
Welcome to the board; post often
As for your idea, someone mentioned such on Clay Travis's site (or blog or whatever it is). According to him though, to have a conference championship, the only allowable way requires that divisions be set up |

Lets just do this and leave it at that for now.
Play one cross division rival and then rotate the others on a 2 year basis home and away one at a time.
Or go to 9 games and keep the cross division games as is.

| Hmm. I didn't know about the divisions requirement. I wonder if the NCAA would change that rule if the SEC decided to challenge it. Maybe the ACC as well now that they also have 14 members.
Oh and I forgot to mention in my first post. You all made a great hire for your hoops coach. A lot of Mizzou fans (including me) wanted us to hire Cuonzo right after Anderson left but instead we wasted time chasing after Matt Painter and ended up with Frank Haith. A hire I am slowly coming around too but I won't completely make up my mind about till after this season.
Thanks for the welcome to the board. |

| | Here we go again | MissouriFan- welcome to the best conference in college football, your fall Saturday experience is going to be much, much more exciting soon.
Snoozer 11:00 am games at Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas on the versus network will be replaced with night games at LSU, the swamp, Neyland stadium, etc. with ESPN production. There's really no comparison with what you're leaving to what your moving to.
Just curious, how do you feel about texas and their role in conference realignment? |

It would take longer than I want to spend right now to explain but they are in my opinion (and others) the main reason the Big 12 fell apart. Their ego, arrogance, and greed is unmatched. |

Yeah Nashville is a little out of place, haha.
Other than that, I really really like the look of that.

| Seems cool. That's for sure the 3 I would want to play every year and wouldn't mind getting Georgia in there.

| The one thing is we would have to keep Vanderbilt on our schedule. Being from the same state, that is an important rivalry game. And it's basically a guaranteed win every year. That doesn't hurt, either. |

Maybe ole miss is a bit due to the yearly cross-division play Posted via VolNation Mobile |
