Oregon's Cliff Harris

got busted driving 118 mph in a 2011 Altima. 2 other Oregon players in car, which was not registered to him or the other passengers.

All I have to say is that since I had an altima in '95, they have evidently stepped up a little. Mine would have stopped at 80 mph and asked what the hell I was doing.

Nice one.

Also, the rental car was registered to an employee of Oregon. Hmmmmm...

It was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment. Compared to ours, osu's, usc's, and auburn's upcoming problems, you're right, this is nothing.

Wasn't an employee of the athletic department, and Cliff (supposedly) paid for it. The lady (supposedly) has the bank records to prove it.

Quote:
"So, I rented the car for my own purposes on Friday. Cliff Harris and his licensed friend, who showed me his license, asked to borrow it and paid me the full amount in cash that I paid for the rental," said the woman, who agreed to speak to KEZI, on condition of anonymity.

The woman, who describes herself as a friend of Harris over the past few months, said she was unaware Cliff would be driving and also said she has proof that the amount she paid for the rental car matches two separte deposits she made into her bank account Friday.

"I do have a copy of my bank statement, showing two deposits Friday of $180 and $120."
Still, stupid. Very stupid. At least he wasn't drinking or on drugs...I guess?

He's very immature.

I think it's funny that it's an Altima more than anything. Dude was needling it. However, it is nothing now, but becomes something if he does that time and again, has a massive wreck and becomes something a program has trouble recovering from. It's all fun and games...just saying.

Now it sounds like a potential money laundering/car deal. Where did the cash come from for their checks? Was it deposited in cash? Does this lady have a bank account of players checks and just happens to rent a car on a friday for her personal use and give it to a preseason all american football player?

My guess is that the player wasn't allowed to rent the car because he was under 21, and he had the university employee, or "friend", rent a car for him. He reimbursed her for renting that car for his purposes.

Just a guess, but it seems logical.

pretty sure you cant do that. At the least, the person actually renting the car is playing with major liability bomb

I'm sure you can't do that, and yes, the lady is insanely stupid for giving the car to a college kid.

That's what I was thinking too. There's a term for that. It's called fraud.

UPDATE: I just read a story about this. The kid had a suspended driver's license. That's yet another reason (other than not being old enough) that a car rental company wouldn't lease a car to him.

There's nothing quite like driving 118mph down the interstate with a suspended license in a rental car.

He received a $1,148 fine for driving over 100mph. Nice! I wonder what the additional fine is for doing that on a suspended license in a misappropriated vehicle.

I would imagine that accepting payment for doing it makes it even worse.

First of all, the football player who she rented the car to was a licensed driver. Second of all, you can't even tell if a license is suspended by looking at it.

Hmmm. Perhaps that's why it is fraud to rent a car from car rental company and then illegally rent it to a third party.

Also, so you're saying that there is another Oregon football player involved? Fantastic!
