| So I heard Phil Steele on Bill King this morning.... ....driving into work. He said Nebraska/OU will be a battle of 12-0 teams for the Big 12 title and that Iowa was a NC contender.
Questions.
1. How can he really think this?
2. How is Kirk Ferentz considered such a great college coach? I just don't see it.
Sorry, I try not to be the replay talk radio to message board guy, but I nearly wrecked when I heard him say each of these.
(And for those of you who want to bash my talk show listening, it's him on XM or the three idiots on 99.1.) |

| Phil Steele sometimes does seem far off but if you look at his stats he normally is right on, he has tennessee finishing like 6-6 with a music city bowl i think this year, grab one of magazines and you will be loaded with info. |

| Favorable schedules for all those teams, Iowa especially because their toughest games are at home. I've heard quite a few analysts say they believe the big10 will send a representative to the title game this year.
Alabama and Florida both could very well have a loss going into the SEC championship game this year. If so both could be left out, the question is who will the other team be if this scenario plays out? |

| | 13-14 in handshakes | Kirk Ferentz builds solid teams using little talent.
At least that's what everyone says. |

The SEC is 6-0 in the championship game since the creation of the BCS, in my opinion, if the SEC has an undefeated team or a one loss team, they should be placed in the Chamionship game until another conference/team can prove that the SEC champion is not always the best team in the country. |

It very well could play out this year that we see an Iowa vs Boise State NCG. Neither has a tough schedule, Big 10 and WAC/Mountain West (whatever they are in) come on.
Add that to the fact the SEC has won the last 4 BCSC's so all of the northern and western voters want to see someone from outside win it, a 1 loss SEC school could very well get the shaft. |

But unless Nebraska finds a way to put up about 60-80 more yards a game there is no way they go 12-0. It's just a very bold statement to make for a team that finished 99th in the country in total offense last year.
As for possible Nebraska losses other than Texas - Washington, Ok State, and A&M because all three are on the road. |

| Nebraska is set up to be that Top 15 team that fails miserably. There's one every year.
They will have three or four losses in the regular season. No O and they are missing the one guy that did everything for them (Suh). Crick was the beneficiary of Suh getting double teamed on the line, so he'll be blocked again this year.
I'll go out on a limb and say Pelini throws his name in the hat for the LSU gig. Bo hasn't had the greatest recruiting success the past few years, and he's still playing with Clownahan's players. The program isn't set up real well for the future. The rumor mill has it that his brother (a coordinator) has pissed off some of the regents too, but you can take that as you will.
Iowa has the schedule working for them. All of their B10 road games are against the conference pumps. They have PSU, tOSU, and Wisky at home, and Kinnick is truly a home-field advantage. I don't see them getting to the BCS CG though.
And if Phil Steele didn't tell you how great Phil Steele was, nobody would notice. He could cut the price of that preview rag in half if he took out the articles stroking his own ego. |
