VIF (post cruise)
Sorry I didnt get back on here sooner. We got back home on Sunday night and I flew out at 8:00a Monday morning for a week long conference. I'm finally starting to get caught up both at work and at home.
Dude, cant believe I didnt run into you at least once. I wore my UT visor most of the time and I dont think anyone said a thing to me. I might have saw you a time or two but not sure because things are a bit hazy (more on that later). Also, I kinda forgot the "Bo" part so I didnt want to holler out "VIF".
Great pics you posted. Love the ruins pics and wish we had gone there. Here's what we did and my thoughts.
Cozumel: we went and rented some open air jeeps from Avis which was at the back of the port and drove around. We ended up at the end of the island where the lighthouse is then went snorkeling. I've been there before with an excursion but being there with just a few people was better since there were iguanas all over the lighthouse area. Plus no one was swimming.
Belize: wow. Just not what we expected. We did the cave tubing which was fun but riding in our bus for about an hour+ to get there wasnt fun. Pot holes all over the road as well as the country is just dirt friggin' poor. I felt guilty being in our air conditioned bus while these people were in shacks most with no electricity. Tubing was great but it was a 30 min walk in the jungle with mud in a large portion. The caves were cool. Big 30-50 ft ceilings and the water went from butt high to deeeep. Saw a bunch of bats hanging from the top of the cave.
Roatan: probably our favorite place. It is probably nicer than going to the mainland in Honduras but oh well. Riding on the bus on our excursion there was a point where we were on top of the ridge and could see the bay where our ship was and on the other side of the island the bay where we were going. Beautiful. Our excursion was snuba. This is where you get the mask, fins, weight belt, and regulator which is lined to air tanks that float on the surface. Un friggin real. Let your air out and float down 25 ft to the bottom. Fill lungs with air and float to the top. I'll do snuba again and again. Tons of fish and the coral reefs were great. Stayed under for about 40 minutes.
Cayman: man, all I can say is ex-pen-sive. Had lunch after our excursion and for 4 of us it was about $120. Problem is I was the only one drinking and only had 2 beers. We did another snorkling exursion there where they first took us to a coral reef. It was yards and yards of rocks with fish etc... We did find a 6 ft nurse shark resting on the bottom which was pretty cool. They then took us over to a location where the Caymans bought the Kittiwake, a decomissioned ship from the US naval fleet, and sunk it a few years back. Kinda scary swimming up on it and when its in focus, the boat is lying in 60 ft of water. Huges schools of amberjack swimming around it. Impressive. I wish we had done the snuba for that instead of snorkeling.
So it was that Friday when we were at sea all day and the wife and I had gone to the pool to get a few chairs. Sat around and of course the cabana boys came by asking if I wanted drinks. Well, nothing else to do right? Had one, had another, felt fine. Sometime after lunch the wife says she wants to go play bingo. About an hour later she comes back up and says she hit. This is the same woman that for the entire cruise couldnt pull her weight at the casino (I was hitting the slots for $40 here, $50 there, $80 plus a few good hands at 3 card poker). She hits for $650. Cha-ching. They dont 'give' you $650, they credit this to your room. Here's where my problems started. The wife decides that she wants to make sure we got the credit so goes to cust service. They tell her the balance we owe was $850 and her assumption is that after the credit we're looking good. The rep says "no, that's after the $650 credit". Wife gets a detailed bill. Hint: never let your wife get a detailed bill. She looks at me and says "you have drank $800 on this trip by yourself". Ergo the hazy reference. Yeah, it breaks it out by card so it was hard to deny.
Overall had a great time. Might post some pics soon.
