Meaning no disrespect, dlw4n, Macs are overpriced to begin with. So yes, you can easily get one costing you 10K if you pick a top of the line Mac Pro. A 17-inch: 2.4 GHz sweetie with a 750GB or 900GB hard drive (yes, 900GB drives exist) runs you 2.5K. Add other accessories depending on if you use it for gaming, serious graphic and video work can easily tack on another 1-2K. OK, now buy all the software you will need that doesn't come standard and not to mention "show off" bells and whistles stuff vain young men add to impress friends and chicks. Plus if the kid loads it with stuff he needs for majoring in graphic arts, medical studies, one of the sciences on top of such high end software he will need statistical software like SPSS. You hit 10K pretty easily. especially if you buy it from an Apple store or some other snotty company that catering to the Church of Apple customers. In which case the pitcher must be from a well to do family or he's in credit card debt until age 50 after interest piles up between the time he graduates and earns a significant income.
