We have Lane, who is inconsistent, Neal who has ball-security issues, Young who doesn't have the size to run between the tackles, Smith who has been eerily quiet, ditto for Hill, and Borque who may not even play RB. I don't think we have an every-down back on roster which tells me and every other SEC defense what our offense will be like. A shame really when you consider the talent on the line. We will be pass-happy for sure, but you have to have someone who can pick up a 1st down. Flame away, but the lack of a run game has tormented me for years and years.
Your assessment of the RB situation is accurate, it is still one of the largest concerns on this team. All we can hope for is Lane to develop more consistency through the fall camp and into the season.

I feel your pain, it seems the Vols are at their best when they can dominate on the ground on offense, and stuff the run on defense.

As for next season, the Vols will start off throwing the ball around to #11 and #21, while attempting to running it just enough to keep the opposing defenses honest.

Three big keys are 1. If they have a lead in the 4th quarter then they must be able to run, and run over the other team. 2. On 3rd and short yardage, can they run enough to get the 1st down? 3. Can they run in the red zone? This is the difference between field goals and touchdowns.

If they can do all three consistently next season then Dooley gets another year, if not the he's gone as the wins won't be there for him to justify his existence at UT.
