While I find myself somewhat in agreement with the first part of this I don't think it really helps a pro-Obama argument. It just points out that the critics could be doing a better job hammering the real issues, and there are several.

For the latter part I'm not sure I like the idea of "proactive" necessarily being a good thing in this case. Feels too much like complimenting the lead lemming headed over the cliff as being proactive.
