How do you think they would have reacted? It is a complete hypothetical that you can fill in the blank to which ever way your biases lie. Truth is, we don't know.
A more relevant question - how would the press react? Would they question Bill and Hillary's fitness as parents?
How did they react to Al Gore's son's DUI? Did they accuse Al of being an unfit parent?
I certainly think this is being taken further than it should be and the press is eager to go down that path.
I don't recall the press suggesting Edwards shouldn't run for POTUS when it was learned about his wife's cancer. Should they have questioned his commitment to family? His selfish choice to take a job that would distract him from caring for his wife?
