He will have to have the opportunity to recruit kids to play in his system, but frankly with the way college baseball works he has an uphill battle ahead of him. If he can start winning some games and build a little tradition that may go a long way in getting fan support, and in turn bring in better players. But, since there isn't any rule about players needing to hit college before the pro's, and since the scholarship situation in baseball isn't that great, it will be interesting to see if he can do it.
that's what is great about baseball. Good scouts can and do find the players they need.
