Until recently when people thought of Tennessee football the phrase “smash mouth” immediately came to mind. Teams knew that UT was going to run the ball right at them, but they still struggled to contain our run game no matter who was plugged in at running back.

Like so many Vol fans Saturday’s loss left my heart broken much like having your dog die or losing your first love. You sit back when its over, relive the entire thing, and think about all the things you could have done differently.

The emotional roller coaster that is SEC football is approaching its last loop in a season that has left fans dizzy from all the twist and turns. This season, more than any in recent memory, has left people trying to explain the unexplainable.

Florida fans thought it was a classless bush league stunt. Georgia fans were elated to finally see some emotion and intensity from their coach whom many labeled as being to nice. Fans of other teams around the conference, who hate them both, fall somewhere in between.

The brutality of playing in the SEC has every team besides LSU showing signs of schizophrenia. Tennessee gets slaughtered by Florida, but then plays their best game weeks later. Florida Follows their victory over the Vols with 2 straight conference loses, one of which came at home to Auburn who had just lost at home to MIss. St.

The first two weeks of the college football season has delivered a mixed bag of results for SEC teams, and left us with more questions than answers. In fact there are really only two things that I know for sure at this point.

Trailing 38-21 early in the third quarter Arian Foster broke free down the left side of the field to the California 2 yard line. After one run for no gain and an incomplete pass, UT faced third and goal from the 2. The Vols took a time out after Lucas Taylor gained one on a quarterback draw.

Being in the SEC can sometimes make you think twice about who you schedule your out of conference games against. This year, like most, Tennessee will be playing 6 SEC teams that played in bowl games last season.

Any team that wins the SEC has to have talent, but today more than ever, you must have old lady luck on your side as well. Gone are the days where when you can count a few conference games as automatic wins.
