Tajh Boyd no longer committed to Tennessee

by freak on December 3, 2008 in Vols Football5 comments

It’s being reported by Rivals and local talk radio that Tennessee quarterback commit Tajh Boyd is no longer headed to Knoxville. Indications are that Coach Kiffin informed Boyd he did not fit the system Tennessee is implementing next season.

Rivals rates Boyd 4-stars and has him lists as the #3 dual threat quarterback in that nation. Rivals also lists Boyd as the #3 most accurate passer and lists him #82 in the Rivals Top 100 for 2009. Per the Rivals site, he is no longer listed as a Tennessee commit and is classified as having “no interest” in the Vols.

This is a questionable move by Kiffin and leads me to believe that he must have another top prospect in mind. Otherwise, I just can’t imagine he would dismiss a quarterback the caliber of Tajh Boyd – especially considering Tennessee’s recent struggles at the position.

Rumors (unconfirmed) have been circulating about USC commit Matt Barkely possibly having some interest in Tennessee. Barkely is rated 5-stars by Rivals and is listed as the #1 pro-style quarterback in the country.

What type of offense does Kiffin run? Uh, yeah, that would be the pro-style.

Wishful thinking? Probably.

It’s worth noting that Tennessee’s other quarterback commit in the 2009 class, 3-star Bryce Petty from Midlothian, Texas, remains committed to Tennessee.

It will be interesting to see if Kiffin can land a quarterback in this class that better fits his system.

I applaud Kiffin for being honest with the guy.
