The Halfcourt Trap Vol. I, No. 30

The final week of regular season combat will find The Trap in New York for West Virginia-St. John’s on Saturday and at TBA Sunday for Tennesse-South Carolina. I must commend the schedulemakers in college hoops. They’ve set up a tremendous close to conference hostilities. Here are six of the best storylines:

1. Gators On The Edge. The two time defending champs face games at home against Tennessee and at Rupp Arena. To breathe easily on Selection Sunday, Florida needs to win both.

2. MWC Bubble Battle. New Mexico and UNLV clash Tuesday night at The Pit with each team trying to add another impressive victim to their NCAA resume. A Runnin’ Rebel win probably locks them into the field.

3. Phenom Into The Field? Michael Beasley is the best player in the country. Whether or not he will end his one year stay in Manhattan will be decided by games against Colorado and at Iowas State.

4. Last Team Standing. Before the Big East Tournament becomes all inclusive, we’ve got one more battle to reach the Garden. St. John’s, DePaul, and Providence will spend the final week battling for a single spot in NYC.

5. Big East Behemoths. Louisville and Georgetown meet Saturday in The District. That classic will have major seeding ramifications and provide the winner with conference hardware.

6. Round 2. Carolina-Duke. Feuding coaches. Players with a chippy history. A possible #1 seed in the balance. That says it all.

Until next week, stay classy, Volnation.
