Stan Drayton named running backs coach at Tennessee

by vol.freak on January 8, 2008

Stan Drayton has been officially named as the new running backs coach at Tennessee according to the Tennessean.

Drayton is thought to be a solid coach and a great recruiter. Rivals named him one of the nation’s top 25 recruiters in 2007. He has been the running backs coach for the Florida Gators since 2005.

Bruce Warwick, Tennessee’s Assistant AD of Football operations, worked with Drayton in Green Bay when they were both with the Packers organization.

It’s also worth noting that Drayon worked with Dave Clawson, one of the leading candidates to be Tennessee’s new offensive coordinator, when the two were at Villanova.

It is obivous that Phil does not want the “new” OC to have a hand in or the hiring of his assistants.
It appears to me that the choosing of assistants is one of the most important jobs of a coordinator. or maybe we should bring back the term “offensive coagulator”
