Some observations from the currently Big Freezy:
1. Georgia fans have issues related to misplaced anger. They’ve been mercilessly taunting the remaining Hawaii fans the last couple of days. News Flash: None of those folks had anything to do with UGA not being in the title game.
2. LSU is in trouble. Everyone I talked to who attended the Tiger game aganst Tulane last night thinks Brady’s crew is in for a terrible SEC season.
3. I’m surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for the Hornets. Exciting young team that is winning. You can’t give fans much more.
4. I’ve now seen 5 Sun Belt teams live. That is going to be a competitive and interesting league race.
5. The trend of former NBA vets joining college staffs is noteworthy. Joe Kleine is an assistant at Arkansas-Little Rock. The success Reggie Theus has found after starting on Rick Pitino’s staff is probably making the college game an attractive point of entry for guys from the League.
6. Bo McCalebb is the best guard most people have never seen play. I’ll pair him with Courtney Lee and take my chances against any backcourt in college hoops.
7. The Human Performance Center on the UNO campus is as old school as it gets. The gym at my old middle school has a greater seating capacity.
8. Just a hunch: Joe Pasternack will eventually get UNO back to the level Tim Floyd had them at in the late ’80s-early ’90s.
9. Despite all of its troubles, New Orleans is still one of the 5 greatest US cities.
10. I’m so glad I’m getting out of here today. Buckeye Fan v. Tiger Fan on Bourbon Street for the next four nights has all the makings of a total fiasco.
Next Stop: Knoxville for Ole Miss-Tennessee.

2. I heard Mike Griffith on the radio today say that he believes, as bad as LSU appears to be, that they are the type of team that could give Tennessee some trouble.
6. I live in Murfreesboro, so I am going to get to see McCalebb up close in two weeks. Lee will be here next month, I agree with you that the Sun Belt will be a competitive league, unfortunately for me, I don’t expect the games I will see to be very competitive.
1. LSU has some athletes up front that will certainly give UT problems on the boards. However, their guards are so bad that the Vols would really have to tank to lose to the Tigers.
2. McCalebb is really, really good. The Privateers have a good record and are a great story. However, they’re exceptionally small and not the greatest shooting team in the world. I don’t think they’re going to blow many people out on the road.
