Road Trap: Saturday Rewind

bball.jpg width=After the hoops feast that was yesterday, here’s what I saw;

1. Billy Gillispie would be smart to pull the plug on Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley. Playing guys based on seniority isn’t the Billy Clyde Way.

2. I would like to heartily guffhaw at those who were putting forth the idea that UNC-Ashville is better than Winthrop. I’m not laughing with you, I’m laughing at you.

3. Dayton is for real. Brian Gregory has a better array of talent at his disposal than at any time in his tenure.

4. West Virginia really hurt their NCAA chances yesterday. Given their lack of a meaningful nonconference win, they’ll have to play above .500 in the Big East to make the field.

5. Tennessee is showing signs of being the team everyone expected. Ramar Smith is slowly rounding back into form. When he relegates Jordan Howell to perpetual mopup duty and spot minutes, Tennessee becomes a contender to reach San Antonio.

6. Vanderbilt continues to underwhelm. How they fare in the SEC will be a real litmus test as to the overall quality of the conference.

7. Andy Kennedy is assembling a roster that will dominate the SEC West. Once he adds some young post players to his freshmen and sophs at the point and the wings, that will be a consistent Top 15 team.

8. Memphis is a good defensively as anyone in the country. They choke off ballhandlers with ease.

9. Arizona, provided this run of bad health is temporary, is poised to make a run deep into March. They are getting better with each passing game.

10. The Memphis Dance team is proof of a higher power. Not really relevant to the happenings in hoops yesterday, it’s just a point I can’t emphasize enough.

The Trap heads to Philadelphia tomorrow for Saint Joe’s-Drexel at the Palestra.
