That seems to be the consensus around the country – Candace Parker is hot. Not only did she make People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People list, we were told earlier this week that she is now engaged to be married – to Sheldon Williams no less. Sheldon is a guy that many put in that “alien look-a-like” category right along side Sam Cassell.
So what gives? Sheldon Williams? Candace Parker getting hitched is the ultimate “retiring while on top” scenario, kind of like Michael Jordan (the first time) or Barry Sanders, but much much worse.
Right now Parker has it all. She’s hot, she can dunk, she will be playing pro basketball after graduation and with all of the attention she gets from her looks, I would say she could get into modeling or even television.
There is one other scenario that we could be overlooking. Maybe this is just a quick overreaction after coming off the rebound of another relationship. Anyone know what happened with Stanley Asumnu? One minute those two are a big item around campus and next thing we know she’s engaged to someone else? Sounds like desperation right? Anything is possible.
Come to think of it, maybe she has a thing for weird looking basketball players. I always have been a big Stanley Asumnu supporter and I’ve even met and talked to him in person. Stanley is a great guy, but let’s face it, he is not exactly Denzel. Maybe there is a pattern to this madness after all.
Another thing that comes to my mind about this engagement is recruiting. I have heard of male athletes wanting to come on campus just to meet Candace. They want to come to Tennessee to have their shot to impress the “basketball goddess“. Could this adversely affect our recruiting in both football and basketball? I don’t think so either but it’s not going to help us any.
It’s not just high school athletes that are upset by this. It seems half the population is crushed from hearing this news. There are articles and blogs about this all over the internet. Has there ever been a women’s basketball player that received this much attention for not only her play on the court but also her looks? I realize that Candace is a pretty hot topic (pun intended) around Knoxville, but I have to admit that I am in awe at the amount of interest that she generates around the country. Just looking at the statistics for VolNation, the number of internet searches that include Candace’s name is mind boggling.
All is not lost. Candace Parker is only 21 years old and the wedding is not supposed to take place until after she graduates from the University of Tennessee. That’s a long time and a lot of things can happen between now and then so don’t give up hope, don’t lose the faith. There is still time for her to come to her senses.

Hey Candace!…Your are the most inspiring women basketball player, i ever seen. You have a big inpact on my basketball life….nd i thank you for being who u are..you set the example.I am about to be a senoir at long beach poly and i play basketball there.When i first came,i was such a great player nd i loved the game.Until i tore my ACL as a sophomore. It was a disaster nd i thought i would never be that player that i used to be. i still feel that way because im not quick like i used to be and now im about to be a senoir and i have to fight for my spot because i missed a whole year of basketball…but the way u play as gave me alot of courage. i thnk candice parker iz one of da best female forwards of all times. Besides her excessive height, she has upper body strength that allows her to take the ball strong.
