Damion Harris Transferring to Newberry

by vol.freak on July 31, 2006

Tennessee basketball player Damion Harris is transferring to Division II Newberry (S.C.) according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. He was recruited by Buzz Peterson as part of the 2003 class.

Harris never played in a game at Tennessee. When he arrived on campus, Damion had weight and conditioning issues and was not in game shape. Pearl did not feel that Damion could contribute in an up tempo style last season and was redshirted.

From what I saw personally, Damion appeared to be in much better shape than when he arrived. I give Harris credit for sticking around and working hard for a year. In the end, I think it was the lack of SEC talent that led to his transfer.

I remember last season it came up that some called Harris “Baby Shaq” due to his size. Pearl was quick to point out that the nickname was the only similarity between the two.
