in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

One hot name in the southeastern region is Thomas County Central High standout Ray Drew. Ray has attracted early attention from some of the regions elite programs and is currently holding 11 offers. Florida State, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and many others have extended Ray an offer early on. At 6’5″ 240 lbs this playmaker is an excellent pass rusher off the edge. Recently his team fell short against Sandy Creek High, so his junior season has just ended.

“I’m keeping all my options open right now. I’m looking at anyone who wants to recruit me. When I was growing up I always loved FSU however. They are only about 45 minutes away from me. Now that football is over, I will head into basketball, and then track. After the school year is over I will try to hit some camps. I would like to go to Alabama, Florida State, and Florida camps this summer for sure.”

Ray has no early leaders he claims, and is in no rush to narrow down his list. He mentioned that Georgia even gave him his first verbal at the end of his sophomore year. He was playing both ways for his team, but at the end of the season he was only playing defensive end. They went undefeated in region play.

“Yeah I would say my pass rushing is my strong suit. I have good size, and I am able to get after the quarterback. Last I checked I had 21 qb pressures and 6 sacks, but that was a few games ago.”

Ray has only been on one unofficial visit this year. He was on hand to watch Florida State take on Miami in the Labor day opener.

“Yeah I went to the Miami-FSU contest on labor day. It was a pretty good game, it came down to the wire. But Miami came up on the good end. I was able to meet some of the coaches when I was there. It was a good visit. I really like coach Bowden and coach Fisher, I’m very curious to see what happens at FSU and the coaching staff.”

Ray also mentioned that Georgia Tech and Tennessee are recruiting him the hardest at this time. He told us a little bit more about some other schools that are on his early radar.

“With Tennessee they definitely are recruiting me very hard right now. I keep in constant contact with coach Willie Mack Garza from there. South Carolina was my first written offer and I’d like to learn more about that program. Oregon is another school that is on my radar as well. They are sending me a lot of mail and I would also like to learn more about them as well.”
